This project focuses on the research and development of a small sounding rocket capable of reaching an altitude of 100km. This rocket can be equipped with devices for collecting cosmic particles and conducting engineering experiments in space. Flexible rocket launch experiments are necessary to collect cosmic particles during meteor showers. The project aims to provide aordable and frequent launch opportunities for accessing space. Therefore, the development of an observation rocket that can be launched from the sea or air is targeted.
A university-led team is developing a “Hybrid Rocket” capable of delivering a 10kg payload to space, noted for its high safety, low cost, and rapid launch capabilities. The team is also researching sea-based and air-launched rocket experiments. In 2019, the team successfully conducted a sea-based launch experiment of a small rocket, and in March 2023, they succeeded in launching the C1 rocket from the sea, which can reach the stratosphere. Since 2022, foundational research for air launches has commenced.
